The committee at Uley cricket club are delighted to announce that they have secured a grant of £3,888 to purchase cricket covers under the ECB’s small grant scheme. The scheme aims to support the ECB’s national programmes – Get the Game On, All Stars Cricket, Women’s Cricket and U19 T20.
The ECB funding has been supplemented by £6, 000 from the Gloucestershire Cricket Board to ensure more clubs could benefit from the scheme.
The covers for the cricket square will help the club complete more fixtures, during the 2017 season many games were lost to the weather but with covers for the wickets more of the games could have taken place, with more games being played it will help with income from match subs and keep people engaged in the game.
The successful application for the grant was supported by the clubs huge success in 2017 with the All Stars Cricket programme, the club held an 8 week programme at the clubs ground in Shadwell and over 30 children took part. The club are running another All Stars Cricket programme in 2018 with the aim of attracting more families and young cricketers to the club.
Pierre Bell, the clubs first team captain lead the grant application and received the news from the GCB this week, Pierre has already secured a supplier for the covers which will be in use for the 2018 season.
The grant application for the covers is part of an ongoing programme being driven by the committee to improve the facilities at the club. A bit part of that programme this year is to also improve the net facility at the cricket ground.
